Elena Koneff was born in 1939 in Moscow, Russia. She studied at the Moscow Art School (today Moscow State Academy Art Lyceum) and subsequently at the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Design, graduating in 1965. Elena Konef entered the Moscow art scene in the early 1970s with a series of pioneering abstract woven gobelins and fiber objects and rapidly became one of the most noted artists in Russia within this field. 

 

In 1979, she emigrated to Austria with her husband, sculptor Vadim Kosmatschof, and daughter Mascha Veech-Kosmatschof. From 1980 -1983 she lived and worked in Vienna and between 1984 - 2010 in Germany. 

 

Since 2010, Elena resides in Austria where she collaborating with Vadim Kosmatschof in their studios located in Vienna and in the Hohe Wand region in Lower Austria.  

 

Works by Elena Koneff are included in the following noted collections: Albertina - Vienna, Niederösterreichisches Landesmuseum, City of Wiesbaden, and Dresdner Bank, as well as, in numerous private collections in Germany, Austria, Russia and the USA.
